Toast to Tuesday: Never Fear the Formal Event

Many of us have come face to face with the challenge of attending a formal work event at least once in our lives. It seems as though the population is split between those who love shopping for the work appropriate outfit and those who absolutely dread it. For those of you who dread it, I understand. It can be very challenging because not only are you searching for something cute and formal, but also professional (and not revealing).

Here are a few things to think about that might save you some time when you set out on your journey to find the perfect outfit. Keep it simple, nothing says you’re trying (way) too hard like an overload of color, accessories, make up, and hairspray. First, I would like to introduce you to your new best friend, the color black. You can never go wrong when wearing black, it is the ultimate color of sophistication not to mention unbelievably slimming.

Once you find a black dress that you feel comfortable in, you can build on to it. If you are going for the trendy look, try a pair of black suede ankle boots, otherwise stick with the ultra professional look with a black patent leather pump. Either shoe choice will work perfectly with sheer tights. I suggest keeping your accessories to a minimum; for example try a strong necklace to contrast against the rest of your elegant black ensemble. Lastly, for a formal event it is only appropriate that you bring a clutch purse, again in black. When picking out a clutch make sure it is not too small, but just the right size to fit your keys, phone, credit cards, and some touch-up make up.
