It’s been a warm week in Chicago so far – we’ve hit the upper thirties! Imagine that! Anyway, all the sunshine and above freezing temperatures are really getting me in the mood for spring. Usually, when this time of year sets in, I eagerly anticipate the arrival of spring and warmth and happiness (and imminent summer vacation!) by adding a few floral pieces into my wardrobe rotation.
That’s why I decided to build a look for today around this pretty floral blazer. Let’s see what I did with it:
In order to really emphasize the pretty, bright colors of the blazer, I went with neutrals for the rest of the outfit. I picked a knee-length dress in desert/beige to go underneath. I DESPISE dropped waists, but under a blazer, it won’t really matter. I added matching beige pumps and, to create a flattering silhouette, threw in a dark purple belt to play up the lighter purples in the blazer.
It’s usually a good idea to build an entire outfit around one stand-out piece – especially when that piece is interesting or bright. In this case, that’s the bold, vibrant blazer. That’s why I kept everything else neutral, to really emphasize that piece and keep the look from being too busy or too bright. After all, I don’t want any of you lovely readers walking around looking like Van Gogh’s drop cloth.
