I’ve been getting lots of requests as far as what to wear to office holiday parties, and I just wanted to say, Ladies, no need to freak out! I know that things are tight this year, and you might have qualms about running out and getting a new holiday dress just for the work party or two or three you have to attend – your own, a spouse or S.O.’s, a friend’s, whatever the case is.
If things are a little tight and the budget is being stretched thin, no worries. Chances are, you’ve got the perfect dress already in your closet – something pretty in red, black, green, or beige/ivory if you’re set on going with the traditional colors, not that you have to though. With some snazzy new accessories, you can breathe new life into this dress and make it perfect for your office party.
I will be focusing today on the accessory mainstays: rings, earrings, and brooches. I wanted to include necklaces, but I always talk about necklaces, so I figured I’d leave those to you and pick out a few things I like that may have flown under your radar when you were thinking about your holiday jewelry.
Let’s go with earrings first. One of my friends was having trouble with figuring out what to wear to her boyfriend’s office party and we were talking about it and she finally settled on a black velvet dress with red earrings, and I tossed in a green pair or two, as well. These are just some of the ones I like, and I tried to keep them reasonably priced.
(I know there are a lot of Anthropologie fans that read this site specifically, so I thought I’d toss you something you’d most probably like!)
Let’s move on to rings, shall we? A great cocktail ring is just dazzling and makes a great statement. Here are some of the ones that caught my eye:
I don’t like yellow gold at all, but I know that’s not the case for everyone, and I really liked the emerald color of the stone (looks like they’ve already sold out of that one, sadly) so I wanted to include this. And the purple is still pretty.
Hee hee. The math nerd in me simply had to include this one. Look! It’s a glittery hoobastank! If I could find a pretty Mobius strip ring, I’d totally buy that, too. For my inner philosophy and critical theory nerd.
You guys know of Dwight from NBC’s The Office, right? Whenever I look at Ann Taylor jewelry, I think of his creepy voice telling Jan, the VP of Sales for Seasons 1-3 and Hospital Director of Office Purchasing in Season 7, “A new Ann Taylor outlet just opened near here. I know you like their jewelry.”
He doesn’t mean to be creepy, he means to be helpful, but it just sounds…really creepy. Haha. I bet Ann Taylor’s conflicted about the free advertising there. (At least, I’m presuming it’s free.)
Finally, let’s look at brooches really quickly. Here are some of the ones that caught my eye and were available in holiday colors.
A little pricey, but it’s Kate Spade. And it’s gorgeous. I love peacocks soooo much. Did you guys know that when it’s going to rain, peacocks sense the change in air pressure and the imminent precipitation and start dancing? They stamp their little feet and bob their tails up and down and waggle their heads with the little crowns on them. (Yeah, they have crowns on their head. It’s amazing.) They’re such awesome creatures.
You know what else other animal is awesome? The turtle. Or tortoise. I mean, I wouldn’t want to have one as a pet, but I love those huge tortoises on the Galapagos Islands. They’re HUGE! And they’re just like little waddling rocks. And they live to be over one hundred years old! Imagine all the things those tortoises (tortoisii?) have seen. Your average semi-old tortoise has been around since before women had the right to vote! Insane.
It’s clearly a Kate Spade kind of day, because she’s rounding out our collection with this fabulous emerald-colored brooch. Talk about eye-catching.
I hope I’ve given you all a good starting point when it comes to thinking about jazzing up your office-appropriate dresses with some fancy new accessories for that office party (or parties) you’re attending this year. And hopefully, you found something you like!
