Maxi skirts are normally a summer item, since they’re long and billowy and breezy, but they can be worn quite well in winter, too. We seem to be having a mild winter so far (knock on wood – I hope it stays that way!) so you might be perfectly fine wearing this as-is; but if you’re cold, you can always pull on a pair of leggings or tights underneath. A maxi skirt as part of your winter work wardrobe? Why yes!

I found this pretty maxi skirt in stretchy (and generally flattering) jersey. I paired it with a lovely fitted red sweater that I found on sale at Lord & Taylor. It’s a great way to really brighten up this outfit, and it pops against the khaki skirt. You’d wear it tucked in, of course, because the fold-over waist would like a spare tire around the middle if you didn’t. Yikes.

I went for brown shoes with this look, and would have liked a pair of heeled boots, but couldn’t find any within my price range. Still, these brown heels fit the bill just fine, and keep this outfit from looking casual or slouchy – or beachy - which is a problem you can sometimes have with maxi skirts, since they’re generally viewed as kind of casual.

And there we have an office-appropriate outfit for under $100!
