I love watching old flicks on the classic movie channels, and I particularly love those set in the 1950s and 1960s. Most recently, I rewatched one of my favorites, My Friend Irma. I’m a big fan of Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis, and that’s their first movie. It was based on a favorite radio show at the time, and it’s an absolutely adorable movie. If you haven’t seen it, I recommend it.
The two leading ladies, Jane and Irma, are both secretaries. As such, their work wardrobe featured lots of structured dresses and high-waisted pencil skirts. They looked absolutely adorable.
I decided I wanted to recreate that look for all of you here at TheWorkingWardrobe. It’s so sophisticated and old school, and just so pretty.
Here’s what I came up with.
Simple, but it makes such a statement. I picked this dress from ModCloth, a great store for vintage inspired pieces. I paired the deep royal purple with these gorgeous red wedges. Sure, wedges aren’t particularly 1950s-wear, so call them an updated twist on a classic outfit. Wedge boots were pretty big last year, after all.
And because I had a little money left over, I sprung for a cuff bracelet in cool silver to play off these warm, vibrant tones.
And there we have a simple, totally easy look that brings retro glamor back to the office!
