Temperatures are finally starting to warm up – well, kind of. Here in Chicago, it’s still overcast and kind of cool, so we can’t bust out those sun dresses just yet. But that’s okay, because you can easily restyle your spring and summer dresses for this cool weather, and for the office, too!
Let’s take a look at what I put together for today:
I liked the warm red and beige colors on this tunic. I don’t normally go to Forever21 for anything other than basics – their tees are quite comfy, and at $3.50, it’s a no-brainer when it comes to casual wear – but occasionally I’ll find something like this that can easily be reworked from something that looks a little too young and a little too flirty to something that looks a little more sedate, a little more work-appropriate.
To age this little dress up a bit, I added a pair of skinny black pants. For budget reasons, I went with the $15 Store, but I’m certainly not suggesting you should go out and immediately buy $15 pants. I know most of you have black pants already, so this is mostly for illustration purposes and to stay under my $100 limit.
Since the tunic is kind of loose and billowing at the bottom (well, not really billowing, but certainly not fitted or structured!) the narrow legs of the skinny pants balance out your shape so you don’t look like you’re wearing a potato sack.
I went with those pretty leather flats in a warm red to add even more color and warmth to this outfit, and they work perfectly because they pull in the red from the top. And finally, I threw in those chunky bracelets to add some interest and sparkle.
And there we have a perfectly office-appropriate look created from what used to be a tiny little dress. Remember, for more business casual outfits, be sure to check out my blog, where I post new outfits daily!
