One of the challenges of dressing for work is finding a way to add some of your own personality to the mix. You might pull on a pair of slacks, a pretty printed blouse, throw on a deep v-neck sweater on top and step into your jeweltone flats (matching a color in the shirt) and look at yourself and think, yeah, I look fine – professional but still feminine – but there’s just something missing. You might think that you just don’t look quite like yourself.
One easy way to add some personality to a ho-hum (but still perfectly cute) work outfit is to hit up your jewelry box. And I’m not talking about digging out your mother’s pearls or a huge statement necklace, either. Pearls are so ‘job interview’ most of the time, and huge statement necklaces absolutely do not work with every outfit.
What you need are some adorable, quirky pendant necklaces that don’t steal attention away from the rest of your outfit, but tell anyone that notices them that you have quite a sense of humor and fun. That’s why I’ve got my eye on these necklaces from ModCloth, one of my favorite places to find unique, oddball jewelry that is still adorable and innocuous enough to be worn to work.
As always, click to purchase. (Also , we were not compensated in any way by ModCloth for this particular post. Not that we’d complain if we were.)
It’s a robot! And it’s adorable! Who doesn’t love robots?! Robots, that’s who. Because they lack the capacity to love.
This is just my individual bias talking here, but I adore this. The brontosaurus has been my favorite dinosaur of all time since second grade. They’re just so perfectly symmetrical, with those long necks and those long tails, and that really appealed to me, even as a second grader.
Some of you ladies love unicorns. Here’s a great way to illustrate that fascination with these mythical creatures that doesn’t involve looking like Lisa Frank stationary.
Peacocks will never not be awesome. I mean, come on, they DANCE when it’s about to rain. They shake their little heads and move their little butts and stamp their little feet as the air pressure changes and humidity rises. They dance when it’s about to rain! What other animal does that?!
(My love of peacocks is well documented. And I’m totally buying this necklace. Even though I hate gold. I shall tell myself it’s more of a brass/bronze anyway – which it is, according to the description.)
I have a jewelry tree that’s a lot like this, and it’s gorgeous. The necklace itself here is very delicate and pretty, and, of course, I love the silver.
This is probably the most adorable thing I’ve ever seen. I grew up on stories like The Jungle Book and 1001 Arabian Nights, which should explain my love of peacocks, panthers, tigers, monkeys, and elephants. Elephants will never not be fabulous. They are so smart and gentle and nurturing. Did you know that researchers at Cornell are working on the world’s first Elephant Dictionary?! Because they are. I have an elephant necklace of my own – this wooden elephant head that is adorable and gets me tons of compliments when I wear it, because, really, who doesn’t love elephants? But I really want this one, too.
I hope you found something you liked in my little showcase, and I hope this post got you thinking of ways to insert little bits of your personality into what might be an otherwise unexciting work ensemble.
