One of the easiest ways to turn a favorite dress into an office-appropriate outfit is to slip on a comfy blazer or a nice sweater. We’ve all got those great dresses in our closets – the ones that make us feel like a million bucks when we put them on, but are probably a little too sexy for the office.

Or at least, they are until we make the necessary adjustments, and when we’re done, we’ve got a professional outfit that is sure to add a spring to our step because, hey, underneath the fancy blazer, we’ve still got on a favorite dress.

That’s what I kept in mind for today’s outfit. Observe:

Shirred Empire Dress in Navy ………. $36.99
Anne Klein Cakewalk Pump in Brown ………. $43.97
Brown Blazer ………. $15

I took some inspiration from Kate Middleton and found a flattering navy dress. It nips in at the waist, creating a flattering shape. It’s got lovely shirred details, but is sleeveless and so not a great choice for some of the slightly conservative offices out there.

To fix that, I paired the dress with a neutral brown blazer, like this cute three-quarter-sleeved one (which I admit I used mainly for an illustration of a brown blazer that would work). I picked a matching pair of heels, and soon had a lovely outfit that’s suitable for any office!
