Student Fashion: Trendy vs. Investment Pieces for Fall

If there is one thing that my mother has taught me, it’s never to buy expensive trendy pieces. As much fun as baroque pants are or neon colored jewelry, those are items that will not last as a fashion trend forever. So there is no reason to spend all of your allowance money for the week just to wear the latest trends! The pieces you want to spend more money on are something like, a structured black blazer or a simple pair of black heels (that aren’t too high).

This Alexander Wang Wool blazer from Net-a-Porter and Manolo Blanik black pair of heels from Nieman Marcus are better quality and will last you many seasons. Though they are on the expensive side, if you choose to make the investment for your wardrobe, you can incorporate them into interview and office appropriate attire. Save your money for the pieces that will last forever and buy the less expensive version of the trendy pieces (these brocade pants are only $27!), your bank account and your parents will be very happy!
