Student Fashion: Boho Chic Inspired Work Wear

by Jessica Braun Gervais | August 12th, 2014

I never want to lose myself in a work “uniform”, so I try to incorporate my street fashion into my work wear. Outside of the office setting, I would describe my style as minimalist meets bohemian chic. Basically this means I like the look of the classic bohemian style, but I try not to indulge in the style too much for a fear of looking as if I walked off the set of That 70′s Show (which don’t get me wrong, the 70s hippie inspired look can definitely be pulled off by some people, but I am just not one of those people).

Instead of immersing myself in the entirety of the bohemian style, I pick elements to incorporate into my wardrobe, such as earthy tones, chunky jewelry, and bold patterns. I like to keep things looking natural and effortless, while stilling looking and feeling put together.  These elements can easily be incorporated into a professional setting. It’s all about feeling and looking, cool, comfortable and naturally flawless.

Let’s use Nicole Richie as our fashion icon for boho chic inspired work wear. You have to admit, she does the deep tones and mixed pattern thing pretty well.

Here are some bohemian inspired looks that you can wear to an office near you!

Make the mix-matched patterns of the Desigual By L Blazer the focus of this outfit by wearing simple black pants such as the Gucci Skinny Trouser and a nude bootie such as the Whoa Girl Heels.  Top it off with nature inspired  jewelry such as the Vintage Tribal Necklace.

What something a little more chic? Try a loose fit blouse, like the Nude Wrap Chiffon Blouse with a fun patterned skirt such as the Evie Printed Crepe Midi Skirt and black heeled booties such as the Classic Newbury Booties.  Tie it all together with a bight stone necklace such as the Geometry Gem Necklace.

Earth tones are a major part of the bohemian style. Try a deep green pants such as the Vince Strapping Trouser with a silk white blouse such as the Angela Mele Milano Blouse and brown boots such as the Manas Ankle Boot.  Add some subtle texture with a printed scarf such as the African Tribe Scarf.
