Student Fashion: It’s (Not) a Wrap

Ah, summer.  When the air gets thick and commutes turn even the most glamorous – and poreless – into sticky, hot messes.

One of the toughest challenges facing every career girl between July and August is how to stylishly navigate both sweltering sidewalks and a bone-chilling offices all in the same day…sometimes even in the same minute.

The key is to look covered up, not bundled up. Something about Nanook of the North at a post-July 4th client meeting looks seriously out of place.  But before you reach for that pashmina usually reserved for chilly airplanes (and a bit out of the new employee price point), there are so many cute, affordable, and work-appropriate options that won’t leave you looking like grandmother.

Think about ditching that structured blazer in lieu of something easy and breezy like this soft iris cardigan.

Or if haute couture is more your inspiration take a cue from Miu Miu’s S/S 2012 capelets.

No matter which end of the sartorial spectrum suits you, the objective is to stave off the frigid air of office A/C with professional yet season-smart choices.

Love it! We've had a bit of a cold snap in the Bay Area and San Francisco this week, and the office temperature hasn't really adjusted to go along with it, so I've been freezing in the office! I'm wearing a cardigan today, and I have to say that it feels weird to wear one in late July! It's definitely necessary to layer, though. Thanks Jenn!

@annedreshfield Anne, you are most welcome! I'd take your cold snap to our heat wave any day.  Good news is that so many retailers are having super summer sales on super cute cardis and other lightweight toppers so you can keep one at your desk and toss another in your tote  - Jenn
