From the Classroom to the Cubicle: Simple in the City

As an intern it is important to stand out with your ideas and opinions – it is equally important that your clothing represents that attitude. Simplicity in your outfit is something that is key in being sure that you are taken seriously, and not making a scene when you walk into the office each morning. Granted you don’t want to dress like you’re going to a funeral, however you don’t want your colleagues staring at your outfit rather than at your work.

There is nothing simpler then a plain long-sleeved black dress. It is a great piece to have in your closet and can be used as a work, night out, and transitional outfit. You could go for a more professional look by adding a red lip and black pump or you could have a more toned-down appeal with a light pink lip, blush, and suede ankle boot. Each look would be very acceptable in a work environment when paired with a sheer black or nude tight. This is an easy way to create several outfits with minimal effort. No matter what style you go for, if you find yourself spending 20 minutes standing in front of your closet, you are trying too hard. Keep it simple, keep it comfortable, and keep it appropriate. Wear what you know works and then you can spend those 20 minutes finalizing that report you have due at the end of the day.
