It’s so fun to me when I see women wearing luxury fashions to the workplace. And I don’t mean luxury as in, “don’t show me the price tag”, but luxury as in, amazingly tailored clothing that just screams confidence and glamor to the individual wearing it. I am truly blown away by these same luxurious work looks in the brand new Shopbop Workwear Boutique! I’ve reported on (and shopped) from Shopbop for years, and I’m thrilled that they have taken this step into the board room!

Here are two very stylish working looks from their lookbook:

Then today, I received this email! They just keep me wanting to keep clicking! For those of you who may have thought that Shopbop is a haven for casual attire, or if you haven’t yet heard of this online mecca, I highly recommend you bookmark the Shopbop Workwear Boutique ASAP!

Today’s Coveted Working Look: CASHHIMI Exotic Handbag at the Office

The statement handbag is one of the most sought-after items that almost every working woman wishes to add to her collection. She may buy several hoping that one of them turns into that sacred accessory, or she may wait for months or even longer until she finds the perfect carry-all for her laptop, planner, wallet…and the rest of life that we all throw into our handbags. I have been on a search myself for that perfect handbag. I think I may have found the solution, but I don’t want to say anything until I receive the package in the mail (crossed fingers!). However until then, I wanted to introduce you to the exotic handbag label, CASHHIMI. The statement handbag just went exotic!

CASHHIMI features gorgeous collections of exotic handbags, many of them laptop- and iPad-friendly! They come in exotic skins, and they just launched some leather options as well. One of my favorites is this bright blue Downing handbag.

I liked it so much, I featured it alongside one of their larger counterparts in TheWorkingWardrobe.Digital Magazine! Check it out:

CASHHIMI is available for sale through Wondermode. Check out their other items at cashhimi.wondermode.com. You may just find your statement exotic handbag!

The Working Man: Downton Abbey Dapper with Ian Kelly & Mr. Porter

Masterpiece Classic has long been party of my weekly repertoire, and Downton Abbey is no exception. In fact, it has almost become an obsession. So it made me very excited to read an interview on Mr. Porter with Ian Kelly, one of the actors who played a doctor at Moorfields Hospital last season. Kelly is a very accomplished stage and screen actor, and he’s also a biographer. Mr. Porter interviewed Kelly on not his roles nor his books, but rather his clothing. With two young children, the publication questioned how he worked a wardrobe into his daily work routine. My favorite quote: “It is hard to maintain sartorial standards with baby food down your lapels.” Well put, Mr. Kelly. Well put.

Student Fashion: First Time Business Traveler

George Clooney is everywhere these days, and that’s not a bad thing. In my opinion you can never have too much George. But it has me reminiscing about last’s year’s critically acclaimed film Up in the Air, and how uncomfortable George, Vera, and Anna looked traveling all buttoned-up tight in their conservative suits.

Having committed myself to at least one global adventure a year since 2005, I’ve focused a lot of time and effort on becoming a perfect packing minimalist while looking like a million bucks. Trust me, it’s not easy. As a first time business traveler, you’re off the hook. Here are some tips to make it through your first rounds at the security line.

I find the most challenging of all trips to be the 1-day and 2-day jaunts for interviews, or business meetings. You don’t want to check a bag. You don’t want to arrive looking a rumpled mess either. The key to looking fresh and first-class worthy is a quick and simple flight plan.

Taking cues from Victoria’s Secret model Miranda Kerr, the objective onboard is ‘comfortable chic.’  That means starting with a simple black dress, flats, a cute sweater or jacket, and oversized scarf to ward off arctic A/C. On oversized tote in lightweight microfiber won’t weigh you down if you find yourself in a 50-yard dash to the gate.

But wait, you say, I can’t dazzle my top client in an outfit that’s more brunch than boardroom! No worries. Stashed in that smart bag of yours will be a statement necklace, a tailored blazer in a wrinkle-free jersey knit, a cute cosmetic bag for transporting delicate jewels (it also doubles as a cute clutch!), and a pair of sensibly-styled heels in a not-so-sensible color like turquoise.

Once off the plane duck into the ladies’ room and swap the sweater for the blazer, the scarf for the necklace, and the flats for the heels. Tuck everything back into your tote and…voila…you’re ready for the C-suites.

Colors like fuchsia and tangerine are the hot hues hitting the runway, but why wait until spring to try them out? Wear these J. Crew fluorescent flats in the office to brighten up your winter wardrobe, and let the first peek of spring come early this year! In the winter they would look especially great with a monochromatic black or gray outfit where the color would really pop, while in the spring they would complement the season’s bright florals and patterns!

Today’s Coveted Working Look: The Business Traveler Toolkit

Considering that I’m now into “convenient yet effective business traveler” mode, I found myself immediately drawn to the concept of a fold-able carry-on suitcase. Carried by the Parisian retailer, Lipault, this rolling suitcase (available in very cute colors by the way), can be packed into a plastic bag similar to that of a comforter or quilt. Therefore this could be a carry-on that could be packed within a carry-on! Wouldn’t that be convenient for business travel / shopping trips?

Another traveling staple of mine is the Pashmina. I have two of them, and one or the other never leaves my handbag. And it’s always in my carry-on when I’m traveling. Those airplanes get frigid! I saw a Refinery 29 special for Leigh & Luca, and I think I need to add one of these to this collection!

Want to see how to style these fashion-forward cover-all’s in multiple ways? See how!
