The Working Man: Mr. Porter Shows You Five Ways to Look Indispensable

I stumbled across the ingenious website Mr. Porter the other day. It is a shopping site for men’s fashion – but it’s so much more. Instead of a section that is regularly dubbed “blog“, Mr. Porter declares this editorial section a “journal“. And the editorial is showcased in varying formats that does evoke a sense that I am reading someone’s journal! And the advice, I dare say, is quite apt for the working man. Last week’s issue featured the headline, “Five Ways to Look Indispensable”. Indispensable, eh? That word is quite appropriate not just for your attire, but for the position you are vying for in the workplace.

One of my favorite of the five looks was the look conveying competitive edge. The items (available for purchase of course) were accompanied by a bit of wisdom declaring that your shoes should be both classic and well-made, but also polished. And make sure those socks cover your ankles at all times.

Another more casual but still oh-so-sophisticated look gave the reminder that an ugly laptop bag or briefcase should be left home. Make sure your case showcases just as much style as your attire. Each image that I show here is accompanied by a few paragraphs of text for you to learn from and hopefully find some bit of clothing inspiration.

Speaking of inspiration, the Mr. Porter journal also provides you a check list of what every man should have on hand for his working wardrobe. Do you own these items? Any you’d like to see added (flip flops need not apply)?

Beautiful! I love the care and love that's clearly been put into the images and their design -- it all comes off so polished and clean (like the outfits!).
