As classic, sharp and romanticized as menswear often is, it sometimes gets a bad wrap for being predictable, especially in an office setting. As a woman who likes to think that I have “nothing to wear,” I’ve come to the realization that compared to men I actually do have a wide array of choices when it comes to fashion. Lucky me, right?
Men traditionally only have a few options of what they can wear at the office; these options typically include: 1) a suit jacket and slacks 3) a crisp, tailored, shirt and slacks/khakis/chinos, you get the point. So with limited outfit choices, how is a guy supposed to up their working wardrobe game without veering too far off course from their professionalism? Well, looking for pieces with subtle design elements is a great place to start, and the Printed Indigo Oxford Shirt from Original Penguin is a prime example of this.
The Printed Indigo Oxford Shirt is indigo (as the name implies), and features a small paisley design throughout the entire garment. This print and color combination is right on trend for fall and pairs nicely with warm Autumn-leaf inspired colors like chocolate-brown, burnt orange and mustard. Another plus? It’s also 100% cotton with chambray fabrication, so it’s comfortable and easy to transition between the office and everyday life.
However, despite the impressive print, color and fabrication of the shirt, my absolute favorite detail of this shirt is the red binding on the sleeve plackets (as shown above). This bright red contrasting fabric really pops in contrast to the more subdued Italian plum color of the shirt and keeps the design youthful and exciting. Plus, to solidify my opinion even further, my boyfriend affirms that the red detail on the shirt is definitely “super cool,” so there’s that too.
