Yes a crisp white shirt is well and good, but a pop of color can be oh so refreshing when it comes to your work wear. Most of your work attire is probably gray and black anyway – why leave all the fun for your tie? Here are two very nice quality button-downs that can add some pop to your work look without being too “out there”. In case you think color is scary…don’t worry, consider these shirts baby steps into the realm of clothing for style, not just dress code. And they’re both on sale, which is just an added bonus!
Below is a blue cotton shirt by Hartford. See, blue isn’t scary is it? And this is a great shade of blue as it doesn’t veer towards denim and can be worn with almost every other color out there. It can also be worn both casually with jeans or layered under a suit. Currently on sale for $48. Ka-ching!
I had a coffee meeting yesterday and when we were coordinating, he said that he would be wearing a salmon-colored button-down. I immediately had a flashback to when my mother painted by brother’s bedroom furniture when he was in high school. The argument went something like this:
“Mom, you painted my furniture pink!”
“It’s not pink, it’s salmon.”
(My brother sponge painted it black the following week and this is still an argument to this day…one that I am still very entertained by.)
I am a proponent of the salmon shirt, personally. I think it stands out – not in a gaudy way – and makes a statement. Plus the color looks well with a lot of skin tones and usually makes the eyes pop. Women wear makeup, men usually rely on some color. Take a shot with salmon with this linen shirt, also by Hartford. It’s on sale for $60; and if anyone asks where you got the pink shirt you can smartly reply, “It’s not pink, it’s salmon.” I’ll back you up on that.
