Today’s Coveted Working Look: Your Work Wardrobe and the Wool Skirt

by Rachel Yeomans | December 28th, 2011

The stereotype of the wool pencil skirt usually involves a “school girl” look in err of private school attire or the field hockey uniform. Luckily, we have Vivienne Westwood to show us how to take the wool skirt off the field and out of the classrooms – and bring it into your work wardrobe.

One thing I want to point out with this outfit, is the length of the skirt. So often I see women cheat on hem length when it comes to dresses and skirts at the office. It is also one of my personal pet peeves. Ladies, short hemlines at work look unprofessional and at times even disrespectful. Maybe you work in an office where you can wear leggings under a tunic that does hit mid-thigh, and no one would judge. But if I met you with your fashion-forward street style outfit, and another woman was standing next to you wearing a version of the ensemble below – I’d assume she was more professional than you, and I’d want to work with her instead of you.

First impressions can be misleading because – at the end of the day – you may be the better professional. But you can’t negateĀ  the fact that first impressions are indeed very important. So please keep that in mind the next time you’re debating hemlines.

Cute skirt but I feel like the drape could look a bit awkward in walking human reality.
