Today’s Coveted Working Look: Sequins at the Office

After discovering the gorgeous Calvin Klein sequin coat this week, I admit I got on somewhat of a sequin “kick”. It is a challenge isn’t it? If you want to wear sequins, how can you do so at the workplace? Well, here are some ideas! First off, this skirt from Christopher Kane. The blue shades are gorgeous, and I love the black detailing of the pockets.

I wouldn’t recommend wearing this type of off-the shoulder top at work, but what about a long-sleeve black crew neck? Or a turtleneck tucked in with even a solid chunky statement belt? Keep the rest of the outfit colors simple to not detract from the skirt – the skirt is statement enough. Let it do its magic!

Or we have this fabulous color-blocked sequins dress from DKNY. Now, you have to manipulate this one a bit to make it work at the workplace. Wear a blazer over it, hosiery, and round-toed black pumps. It covers up half the sequins without losing the chic quality of the dress. Then you have a perfect work-to-evening look come happy hour!

To bring it back to a bit more of a conservative vibe without losing the fashion pizazz, let’s check out this Nina Ricci skirt. To quote a line from the movie Working Girl, it’s “simple, elegant, makes a statement”. And this skirt does all three!

If this is still a bit too much for your office, what about working some sparkle into your accessories? This fedora by Eugenia Kim will give your outerwear some panache, while easily being removed before your workday starts.

You can also add some sequins by a small scarf tied around your handbag, a bangle, a brooch, and even some ballet flats. Make sure that your statement of sequins works for your dress code; and also make sure you’re comfortable turning heads and receiving all of those outfit compliments!
