Yesterday was an iconic moment for Burberry Prorsum. It was not just the day of their fashion show concluding London Fashion Week. it was also their first appearance at London Fashion Week in a decade! And not just that; they didn’t feel it necessary to restrict the Burberry 2010 Spring/Summer collection to just those in attendance – they aired the show live online for everyone around the world to see. According to Bloomberg, Burberry shares have more than doubled this year, the best performance on the 13-member Bloomberg European Fashion Index. Now that is what I call a comeback!
The trench coat has been as iconic a brand as Burberry itself since it became a standard in everyone’s fashion collection. I don’t care what outfit you are wearing to work, it is instantly heightened in prestige and style with the simple addition of a trench coat. Christopher Bailey, Burberry’s creative director, molded the concept of the trench coat into that of the gown and mini dress, gorgeously draped and drawing a sudden gasp of delight with every new look strutting down the runway. Throw on a pair of slacks with a few of those, and you can work your office meeting in a whole new way – just make sure your ensemble doesn’t distract from your presentation. Not that you can help it.
