It’s official! Jean Paul Gaultier will join the ranks of Target’s Designer Collaboration Series both in stores and online starting March 7th and lasting through April 11th, according to New York Magazine. Gaultier follows suit of Alexander McQueen and Anna Sui who have also joined forces with Target to design a collection for the mass retailer. Both McQueen and Sui were required to choose a muse for their collections, and that is no different for Gaultier. McQueen chose Leila Moss, Sui embraced Gossip Girl, and Gaultier is paying tribute to “the American woman,” and her history related to pop culture. Considering his history with Madonna, I wouldn’t be surprised to see corsets and pointed bras on Target racks come spring. However I am hoping he’ll show an essence of the working American woman with a pop star attitude that we saw hints of in his Spring 2009 RTW collection.
