As I’m debating my upcoming seasonal wardrobe shift, I have started my quarterly ritual of flipping through fashion magazine advertisements and scanning last season’s runway shows as a reminder of what I loved and what I won’t be able to live without. After ripping out ads of my regular favorites, I flipped to a Burberry ad. Based on my personal fashion history, I have never cared for Burberry. I found it redundant, stuffy and preppy. Granted, most of the attire in my wardrobe is purely work-related. But there is a distinct difference between work attire and stuffy work attire.
However, after Christopher Bailey was appointed Creative Director of Burberry in 2001, I began to continuously take a second look at the line and wonder if I should second guess my opinion. Then I noticed their advertising campaign this year–Harry Potter’s very own Emma Watson, and did it look good! And then what did I discover? That Burberry is planning on showcasing its spring/summer 2010 collection at London Fashion Week for the first time in a decade! And if I weren’t already being fashionably hit over the head, I came across this fantastic article on the historic business in The Independent. I am a stubborn buyer and am fiercely loyal to my designers. However, with such a shift as this, I think Burberry may be worth more than just a second look.
