Monday Start-Up: The Shoe Shine and Other Business Upkeep Basics

This Sunday’s New York Times reported on a Midtown shoe shine shop that has been shining shoes of business men and women since 1921. Still in business (and still busy), this shop reminds us of the basics that we shouldn’t forget when caring for our clothes and accessories. The basics include:

  • Have a tailor
  • Get your clothes dry cleaned and pressed
  • Treat your shoes to a shoe shine and cobble

So the next time you are walking through the airport and you have some time to spare before your flight takes off, stop at one of the shoe shine stands and sit for a bit. When you land and head to your evening event or straight to the work meeting, your shoes will indeed be noticed.
