I get very excited when I see two industries combining and becoming something truly unique and different. Cupcakes and Cashmere combines cooking and fashion; Garden & Garden walks you through the Southern lifestyle; even my own print magazine, TheWorkingWardrobe.Print, will work together both business fashion and fiction. I recently read an article on how a woman is taking her fashion background into the bakery with her new business, Fashion Chef.
Charlotte Neuville used to be a fashion designer, and now with her new business, Fashion Chef (launched 2011) designs couture wedding cakes, pastries, and other delicacies that feature many accessories from her fashion background (i.e. ribbons, braids, jewelry, and the like). She didn’t completely give up fashion for cakes, however. She teaches pastry art to students, consults with fashion companies, and lectures at design schools.
I wanted to include this brief story in this week’s Monday Start-Up as Neuville has shown us with Fashion Chef that we may not have to choose one path or another. We can have our cake, and make it pretty too!
