Fellow Working Men: Don’t Fight the Suit, Work It

When it comes to men’s fashion, I am particularly fond of the blazer and jeans combination – very Greg Kinnear. For a more professional look, I think it’s unwise to stray from the suit. I have seen the khaki and navy blue or black blazer combination, but all I can equate that with is that of a ship captain. At a recent work event, I even saw a man donning a black sport coat with grey slacks and it was not a particularly strong fashion statement. In my opinion, men trying to mix and match business suits is the equivalent of trying to match black and a very blue navy.

I’ve heard men complain about the lack of stylish options with their professional ensembles. Women have much more freedom and flexibility when it comes to looking professional. But perhaps that is because we just can’t pull off the business standard of the suit half as well as men do without looking – well – manly. Therefore we have the options to work with other looks. Yet as the standard of the suit was created for the male, let’s be honest, it works. So why change a good thing? Express yourself with an amazing tie or fantastic cut. But bottom line: Don’t fight the suit, work it.

I was just talking to my gf about this the other day. I really don't do the blazer thing. I don't hate it, just think the suit is the way to go for me. It's easy and works, which is good. Glad I'm not alone!
