I’m one of those women who believes a power suit can be anything but a boxy jacket and rather unflattering pants. Patterened pencil skirt with a sharply tailored, modern jacket? Yes please. Mixed prints? Bring it on. Silk jumpsuit? Why, that’s my coveted working look of the week!
It may just be my upcoming trip to L.A. next weekend (hello, 90 degree weather!), but I’m suddenly captivated by both rompers and jumpsuits.
While this jumpsuit may look deceptively simple, the perfection is all in the details. I particularly love the relaxed sleeves, which bring a bit of a masculine, playful vibe to this particular iteration of the one-piece wonder. The pant length is thoughtful, too, with a cropped look that will be just as flattering with flats as it will with heels.
So chic and yet…so very, very simple. I love the thought of just pulling this on and running out the door (I’m actually afraid that if I buy a jumpsuit I’ll never go back to wearing separates…ever) with a bright lip and my laptop bag (with a simple clutch inside for a potential day-to-evening look). And while this one may be a bit more suited to business than others thanks to the gorgeous silk and covered shoulders, you can easily find jumpsuits that are just a bit edgier with straps, deep necklines, and much more – however those would definitely not be appropriate for the workplace.
So the question – how do you make this jumpsuit that much more work appropriate? Add a belt and add a boyfriend blazer or a wrap cardigan and statement cuff. If your office is as casual as mine, you may not need these extras, but one mustn’t assume anything.
I might just be trying on a jumpsuit soon. Would you try this one-piece wonder?
