I guest lectured at DePaul University last weekend on the subject of personal branding. For my own personal branding, I needed to decide what to wear. The lecture was geared towards graduate students in the process of completing their thesis. So I had to showcase my expertise, be relate-able and most importantly to make it through the blizzard in one piece. The outfit of choice was as follows:
Stone-colored shift dress: My Tribe
Black cashmere v-neck sweater: Bob Basics Courtesy of Shopbop
Necklaces: Trinity Pendant Courtesy of Stella & Dot
Red handbag: Hadaki Nylon Tote Around Pod Ruby Courtesy of Careerbags
Leggings: Kate Boggiano
Black winter boots: Natasha Pajar Boots
I thought wearing jeans was too casual but slacks a bit too much for college students. So I went with the leggings and dress combo so my boots wouldn’t look as ridiculous (they were warm and safe – therefore necessary), and added the sweater to add the layer of necessary warmth. The necklace added a nice fashion flair, but the highlight was the bag. Made of waterproof nylon, popping with a loud red color and conveying a sense of casual cool with the hardware and cross-body option, I felt it made a strong statement when walking into the classroom. In fact, on the way back from the lecture, I overheard a student walking past me comment to her friend how cute my bag was. I’ll take that as a win.
