Today’s Coveted Working Look: Morphing Hour Dress

by Anne Dreshfield | December 18th, 2012

Sometimes our wardrobes need just the tiniest bit of support – a rock-solid piece that grounds us, whether it’s for errand-running, work, meetings, or happy hours. Sometimes we just need that one piece that never fails us, and for me, that always makes me think of a little black dress.

I suppose that’s cliche, or simply what “little black dress” has come to mean in fashion: that dress that will always, always make you look good, in a variety of situations. I’m always on the hunt for a little black dress (I’m almost ashamed to admit that I just got around to buying my own LBD, but hey, I was waiting for The One, you know?), so when I was browsing Anthropologie’s newest arrivals, I couldn’t but click on their new Morphing Hour Dress.

The Morphing Hour Dress is deceptively versatile. From a distance, she might look like another plain black dress, but up close you can see the details of the ruched jersey in all their flattering glory. The length is just about perfect for most offices, and the sleeves are a fresh take on the LBD. The right amount of business and the right amount of casual combined, the sleeves can easily be played up with some eye-catching jewelry (my favorite piece right now is a rose gold watch).

Headed to the office? Pair with your favorite black pumps or a textured neutral shoe like pictured above. Out for drinks with friends on Friday night? Pair the Morphing Hour Dress with heels that are a pop of color or your favorite eye-catching clutch. Winter? Slip on your warmest tights and a pair of booties. You get my drift: the LBD is really the best friend in your closet who’s always there for you. Really, she’s a true working wardrobe staple.
