I have a confession to make.
I love shoes. And I don’t mean just love them, as in I have a few pairs and I’ve held onto them forever. Shoes catch my eye, no matter what store I’m in. If I pass by a shoe that makes me turn my head, you can bet I’ll be gone from your side faster than you can think, “What the heck is she doing?!” My shoe collection is growing, though a bit slower than it used to (college will do that to you, I suppose). I have a few pairs on my holiday wish list, though, so we’ll see what’s waiting for me on my birthday and under the tree!
When it comes to work shoes, I have to be a bit more practical than my fashionista side might allow. I have to factor in my commute, the walk to the office, running about all day, and whether or not the shoes will hold up in whatever the forecast may bring on the commute home. While I like to be cute and comfortable, I also like to forget about my shoes and focus during the day — I don’t want to be fretting and worrying about my shoes or the state of my feet every minute! Enter detailed flats, which can come in a variety of finishes and bedazzled states. When I need a special shoe but I still want to be able to make that last train, I keep my eye out for detailed flats that will polish off an outfit without sacrificing my comfort or style. Here are just a few of my favorites:
Made of smooth leather, with a flash of gold on the toe and a thin strip running down the heel, the J.Crew Cece cap toe ballet flat will be sure to make you flash, whether you’re coming or going!
Vince Camuto’s Olita 2 flat is a slightly more formal version of J.Crew’s flat, since it’s made out of suede rather than leather. I’d love the looks of this with a holiday outfit, but be careful with this beauty in winter weather!
It seems like this season, whenever anyone says “detailed flats,” someone else answers with “detailed loafers!” Yes, loafers are a big trend right now, and I’m loving embellished versions like these: Ann Taylor’s Hadley Glitter Loafers.
One of my absolute favorite trends this season has been ankle-strap flats. I adore ballet flats and the like, but the ankle strap just seems to kick it up a notch. Check out Anthropologie‘s version, the Glossed D’Orsay Skimmers:
I adore the cut-out detail on the instep of the foot, and the delicate straps are just lovely. Look closely and you’ll see these detailed flats are as detailed as can be; they transition from regular leather to a patent toe for a hint of shine!
Finally, here are some show-stopping detailed flats that will take you from work to the nearest holiday party. I’ve been a fan of J.Crew’s t-strap ballet flats for a long, long, time, but this update is just gorgeous! (Bonus: they’re on sale!)
So, what are your thoughts on detailed flats? Do you have any favorites this season?
