I’ll admit it: ever since peplum has become popular I’ve been on the hunt for a style that flatters my curves, will look good over a pencil skirt, jeans, or trousers, and doesn’t completely break the bank. I was flipping through an InStyle magazine the other day and landed on a gorgeous shot of Kate Hudson, who has teamed up with Ann Taylor to model in their new holiday campaign (marking the third time Hudson has modeled a winter campaign for them). In it, Hudson is wearing a gorgeous peplum sweater over a pencil skirt — see below.
I absolutely love the pop of color with the orange patent skinny belt — you can’t go wrong with one of those! Ann Taylor styled this sweater in a similar way in their “Must-Have Looks” section:
The Ann Taylor peplum sweater also comes in a striking “Brazen Blue” and “Scarlet Maple,” both of which would work with darker separates for the winter months. I happen to think that the black is the most versatile of the three, but the other colors are certainly eye-catching.
I can see myself wearing this sweater with a bright skirt, like in the image above, complemented with a bold lip, tights, and dark heels. I love the neckline, which gives a hint of skin without being too low, and the elbow-length sleeves are elegant and timeless. This is truly a working wardrobe workhorse!
