When getting ready for work, it’s easy to grab the safe go-to items of apparel: The suit, the blouse and trousers, the blazer, etc. But have you ever grabbed the item that isn’t a safe go-to and then made it work for your time on the clock? Yes it takes more time to put the outfit together, but it’s refreshing to wear something completely different. Plus it’s fun! Here are two outfits I put together.
The first, the Twiggy Retro Shift dress:
Then I added a faux leather jacket:
This was an outfit that I wore when working at the wine shop I help out at during the evenings and weekends. It gets warm in there when I’m putting cases together for people, so it was nice to have a layer to shed if needed. I wanted a cute approachable outfit so people would feel comfortable asking me questions when looking for wine. I even received a few compliments on it throughout the day. I’ll never turn those down!
The other outfit I put together was for my full-time office job. It’s casual, but still requires a sense of professionalism as clients visit regularly. A perfect challenge for this Katniss-like maxi dress!
Totally adorable and incredibly flattering…but definitely not appropriate for work. That’s when you add the wrap cardigan! It also helped showcase the statement cuff that much more.
It was a lot of fun putting these outfits together, and I received lots of nods of approval from colleagues and clients for each. Regarding the maxi dress, a colleague exclaimed how excited she was that I wore that outfit as she had no idea how to wear a maxi dress or skirt in the winter (hint: opaque tights and booties). So here’s your challenge – wear something a bit out there this week to work. Be appropriate, but add that dash of daring.
And if you care to share, I’d love to check out your fabulous work wear chic!
