While San Francisco is swaddled in impenetrable fog (which, oddly enough, does grow on you after a while!), the rest of the country is enjoying a well-deserved heat wave. After a very long and particularly trying winter, I for one am finding it refreshing to slip into dresses for work, even though most of the summer in San Francisco feels more like winter. That being said, there are still a few warm days here and there, enough that I need one or two staple dresses in my working wardrobe to keep my cool, comfortable, and pulled together for a day at the office.
One of my all-time favorite brands, J.Crew, never fails with work dresses or skirts, in my opinion. Their take on a flirty-yet-classic dress for the season caught my eye: their Paneled Flare Dress.
Crafted of rayon, nylon, and spandex, the Paneled Flare Dress has the same feel as J.Crew’s infamous pixie pant, which is known for its incredible stretch and recovery. I happen to love both the pixie pant and the minnie pant, its cousin, so my ears immediately perked up when I heard this dress was similar. As a result, the Paneled Flare Dress hugs curves and skims the hips as it flares out into a slightly-structured skirt.
I love this dress is a bit tongue-in-cheek. It’s just a bit flirty, while still offering enough structure and clean, architectural lines to be perfect for the office. I would pair this dress with neutral pumps, and if your office requires shoulders to be covered, pop on a cropped blazer. I’m partial to J.Crew’s Schoolboy Blazer, another classic in its own right.
Even better? The Paneled Flare Dress comes in a variety of colors, including an eye-catching poppy, a crisp white (perfect for summer!) and an inky navy that I could see Kate Middleton wearing.
What kind of dresses do you wear to the office during the summer? Would you try J.Crew’s Paneled Flare Dress?
