Beauty 101: My Skinspiration with the Home Shopping Network

When Skinspiration reached out to me about sharing my skinspiration with all of you, I stared at my computer screen for a moment, dumbfounded. The truth is, I have what must be dozens of skinspirations – because my skin is simply an inspiration to no one. I’ve struggled with acne for years and years, trying everything from Proactive to Accutane to try and calm it down. Since moving to San Francisco and starting a new job, I’ve had to deal with pollution, stress, and hormones wreaking havoc on my skin, and that means I look up to women with seemingly perfect skin even more.

My skinspiration? Emily Schuman, of Cupcakes and Cashmere fame.

At Cupcakes and Cashmere, Emily offers style, lifestyle, and entertaining tips – and beauty and skincare. There’s truly nothing she doesn’t cover! And, of course, she looks incredible while doing it.

While I may not have Emily’s beautiful skin, I can certainly dream – and do just about everything in my power to try and duplicate the effect! Since I’ve struggled with acne, I’m almost always on the hunt for products that won’t break my out, help treat current breakouts, and leave me with a healthy glow that isn’t masked by medium-coverage foundation.

Sounds tough? Sometimes it is! But I have several products that I absolutely adore that my skin has been responding to. I’m not quite on Emily’s level quite yet (I dream of the day I can skip foundation!), but it’s made a big improvement of my skin’s texture and health.

My most recent change to my skin care has been the addition of Kate Somverville products. While expensive, her products really make quite a difference.

Kate Somerville Blemish Banisher Kit ($55, an $80 value)

A concentrated kit to banish acne forever, Kate Somverville’s Blemish Banisher Kit has been great for my skin. The moisturizer is rich without being too heavy, and the once-a-week scrub is incredibly refreshing – my skin consistently looks twice as good when I wake up the morning after using it. The cleanser works hard to strip dirt and makeup with stripping vital oil from the skin, which helps my skin relax and not over-produce oil.

While I still have a bit of hormonal acne, a lot of my blackheads and whiteheads have simply disappeared thanks to this kit. The best part? The kit is a great value, but the products are still big enough for you to try them over time. I purchased the moisturizer immediately after I ran out of the smaller size, but I’m still going strong with each of the other products. I’ll be purchasing full sizes when they run out, that’s for sure!

A few of my other favorites? Keep reading!

Garnier Anti-Puff Eye Roller ($12)

Gently roll it under your eyes in the morning to promote decongestant, lessen puffiness, and swipe away dark circles. I’ve noticed a big difference in the bag under my eyes, and the metal tip is so soothing early in the morning. In fact, I use this day and night!

First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Instant Oatmeal Mask ($22)

When my skin is dehydrated, irritated, and just plain tired, I reach for this incredible mask. It’s easy: just slather it on, relax with a book, and rise off when you’re ready to go to bed. Sometimes I even wear it all night! Made with oatmeal (the mask itself is actually full of oatmeal chunks!), this mask is made specifically to nourish and rejuvenate even the most sensitive of skin. When I use this mask, my acne calms down, dry spots fade away, and my skin is more radiant. If I can’t have Emily’s skin, this mask certainly helps me come close!

Who is your Skinspiration? I have several (it’s hard not to be inspired by every single woman who doesn’t suffer from acne), but Emily tops my list. Her skin truly lets her shine without requiring a lot of makeup or enhancement. It’s simply radiant, which is what I aspire to every day!
