Beauty 101: Office Makeup Bag Essentials

by Anne Dreshfield | April 25th, 2014

While every woman may consider different items “essential” to her work makeup bag, there are a few that seem to sneak into every single makeup bag on the train (or bus, or highway, or even the plane!). Here are a few of my favorites for work – items that I carry in my purse every day, for all of those “just in case” moments, ranging from simple lip glosses to fill-on lipsticks…

Dior Addict Lip Glow: The Barely-There Stain of Color

Call this a magic lip balm, this hydrating balm goes on clear and shifts to a subtle pink shade that flatters every skin tone and never looks too made up.

Jo Malone Vitamin E Lip Conditioner: The Life-Saving Lip Balm

When your lips are undeniably chapped and you just need relief, this targeted treatment will work wonders. Smells and tastes like honey!

NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer: For Post-Work Touch-Ups

A concealing workhorse, this will work on both under-eye circles and any blemishes or age spots you may have. Less is more; dab a tiny bit on and blend.

NARS Lipstick in Heat Wave: The Perfect Orange-Red Lipstick

This semi-matte orange-red lipstick never fails to turn heads when I wear it. Pair with neutrals and over-sized sunglasses for a seriously glamorous commute.

Bite Beauty Cashmere Lip Cream in Sancerre: For Wine-Stained Lips

The newest addition to my bag, this is the ultimate matte lip: comfortable, hydrating, with color that lasts. Pair with mascara, concealer, and call it a day.

What are the newest additions to your makeup bag in your purse? I love the Bite Lip Cream, though the color is a bit much for the office on most days (though I’ll admit, working at a start-up is pretty casual – most people don’t care what kind of lipstick you’re wearing, as long as you get your work done!), and I’m looking forward to pairing it with primarily neutral colors at the office for a pop of fresh color.

By the way, all of my makeup used to just be tossed into my handbag and ended up at the bottom, but now they’ve found a home in this stunning Clare Vivier Snakeskin Wallet Clutch. I drool on it every time I pull it out of my bag. Touching up concealer is so much more glamorous when you’re pulling it out of a bag like this one!
