It may feel like summer is just getting started, but both the fashion and beauty world are in their usual jump-the-gun mode: everyone’s already moving on to fall, even as they slather on sunscreen and head to the beach. Seems odd, but every single year I look forward to the beginning of summer just for the glimpses of fall fashion and makeup. This year, Chanel didn’t disappoint, recently releasing their products in their Fall 2014 Collection, Collection États Poétiques.
A poetic Fall palette. A colourful game of opposites. Innocent and stormy shadows express passion and emotion. A redesigned eyeliner pen defines a tone of mystery with a sleek felt tip for ultimate precision.
Ah, Chanel! Only you can make us makeup-loving fools fall for smoky pinks, plums, yellows (yes, yellows!) for fall. As it turns out, Collection États Poétiques is full of surprises – and yes, makeup you can wear to the office.
While the promotional picture for the Fall 2014 Collection above may send you running for the hills, just take a moment to look at the different pieces of makeup in the collection. The promotional picture is beautiful, but very, very few women can wear that kind of makeup to the office. Keep in mind that the promotional image aims to show off many of the products featured in the launch, and that promotional images for makeup in general are more artistic representations of how to wear the collection.
Chanel eyeshadows are known for their buttery softness and ability to sheer out over the lid for a gorgeous wash of color. Pick any of the new eyeshadows and wear as a simple wash of color on your lid to brighten up your eyes. In order from top left, a selection of the Chanel Ombre Essentialle Eyeshadows, 102- Sensation, 104- Palpitation, 106- Hésitation, 108- Exaltation.
I’ve written about them before and I’ll write about them again (and probably every season after that!) – Chanel’s Rouge Coco Shines are one of my favorite lipsticks for the office. Delivering a sheer wash of color with a incredible moisture, the Rouge Coco Shines are perfect for a pulled-together, professional look, without looking overdone.
It wouldn’t be a makeup collection without Chanel’s infamous nail polishes, which are always, in a word, quite stunning. The one that catches my eye from this season’s release is 629- Atmosphere, an opalescent champagne gold that changes color as it catches the light.
What do you think of Chanel’s Fall 2014 Collection? I can see myself reaching for a few of these office-appropriate pale pinks and plums as the weather turns a bit colder and my wardrobe palette leans toward the browns, blacks, and dusty colors of fall. I’m particularly enamored with the nail polish. As Collection États Poétiques states, this collection is truly a poetic state!
