Personally, I am horrible at pairing skirts with tops. It’s not like wearing jeans and a blouse, where practically every combination works in some respect. Only certain skirts seem to fit with certain tops, and you need to buy a zillion separate pieces to make sure you have coherent outfits and the whole thing ends up becoming a closet full of morning stress (at least for me). So when pants aren’t doing it for me, I end up settling for a dress, even if all I really wanted was to wear a skirt.
So needless to say, I was excited when I came across the ASOS Pencil Dress in Color Block with Shell Top. As its name suggests, it is neither a skirt nor a top, but a dress that is designed to look as two separate pieces. Basically, this dress takes all the stress out of pairing your pieces and creates the illusion that you actually know how to flawlessly pair a pencil shirt with a crisp shell top.
This dress also gives a professional spin on the trendy crop top. Typically, wearing a crop top to work would be a no-go, but this dress eliminates the awkward bare-midriff-in-the-office conundrum. The shell top is connected to the skirt, so you don’t have to worry about the pieces falling down or rising up.
