There is little more refreshing and fun than a student fashion show. Many times with fashion collections, you see designers trying to target their consumer and what retail buyers want to sell to their customers. Of course this makes perfect sense for the fashion business. However, most students don’t have to feel those business pressures while under the protection of a scholastic roof. All they have to do is design for themselves, and design they did.
Following its premier last year, this year’s Fashion Focus Chicago’s Dress Code runway show featured the designs of 20 college students from four Chicago colleges, of which include: Columbia College Chicago, Illinois Institute of Art, The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and the International Academy of Design and Technology Chicago. There were so many fantastic, original, creative, well-constructed and statement designs strutting down the runway in Chicago’s Millennium Park on Friday evening. And despite the fact that these students don’t yet need to worry about the business angle of fashion, I was amazed to discover some fantastic working looks that they sent down the runway!
Add a briefcase, a blazer or even some power suit attitude, and these students could be designing their way into the workforce.
